What's music to your ears? The sound of a Ford DFV V8 in a Seventies Formula 1 racer? Or the scream of a two-stroke V4 Grand Prix bike? Or perhaps a Jimi Hendrix-inspired riff from a stack of Marshall amplifiers? Of course, it could be all three... in which case, Silverstone is the only place to be over the weekend of July 28-30, when the venue for the hi-tech British Grand Prix goes analogue with a three-day festival of classic motorsport and classic rock'n'roll.
Founded in 1990, the Silverstone Classic has become the world's biggest classic motor racing festival, with racing from a wide variety of machinery spanning eight decades. There's action from Formula Ford and Formula Junior single-seaters, Group C Le Mans racers, Masters Historic F1 cars from 1966-1985, Super Touring Cars, Pre '66 GT cars and pre-war sports cars... to highlight just a few of the categories.
There's also guaranteed drama from the Celebrity Challenge Trophy Race, in which up to 30 Austin A30/A35s will battle for honours on the full 3.66-mile Grand Prix circuit. Among the stars are Olympic medallists including skeleton racer Amy Williams, cyclist Jason Kenny, rowers Mark Hunter and Greg and Jonny Searle, plus boxing's Carl Froch. They will be joined by TV pundits Ant Anstead, Tiff Needell and Dragon's Den star Theo Paphitis, plus AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson and many others.
In all, there are more than 1,000 entries for the 20-plus races and demonstrations.
BookAclassic will be in attendance for the 2017 event.
